# Create and manage workspaces

> Create a workspace, rename it, change its icon, or delete it.

Any member can create a workspace. The creator, an owner, or an admin can rename it, change its icon, or delete it.

You cannot rename or delete **General** or **Archive**.

## Create a workspace

**1. Open Settings**

Select **Settings** at the bottom of the sidebar.

**2. Open Workspaces**

Select **Workspaces**.

**3. Open the form**

Select **New workspace**.

**4. Name the workspace**

Enter a name in **Workspace name**.

**5. Create the workspace**

Select **Create**.

## Expected result

Tellclip shows **Workspace created**. The sidebar shows the new workspace with the default folder icon. You can change the icon in its row.

## Rename a workspace

On the **Workspaces** settings page, edit the name in its row. Then press Return or click elsewhere.

## Change a workspace icon

On the **Workspaces** settings page, select the icon in its row. Then select another icon.

## Delete a workspace

**1. Open Settings**

Select **Settings** at the bottom of the sidebar.

**2. Open Workspaces**

Select **Workspaces**.

**3. Show the delete control**

Point at the workspace row. Then select the **X** that the row shows.

**4. Read the confirmation**

Make sure that the browser says that Tellclip will move the clips and delete nothing.

**5. Delete the workspace**

Approve the deletion in the browser.

## Expected result after deletion

Tellclip deletes the workspace and moves its clips to the default workspace. Tellclip does not delete any clips.

## Common errors

### The controls are not available

Someone else created the workspace. Ask the creator, an owner, or an admin to change it.

Rows that you cannot edit show a plain name and a disabled icon.

### An action fails

* If Tellclip shows **Could not create workspace**, read the message. Then try again.
* If Tellclip shows **Could not rename workspace**, read the message. Then try again.
* If Tellclip shows **Could not update workspace icon**, read the message. Then try again.
* If Tellclip shows **Could not delete workspace**, read the message. Then try again.

The message can be **You can only edit workspaces you created**, **Cannot delete the default workspace**, or **Cannot delete the archive workspace**.
