# Control access to a clip

> Choose team-only access or turn on a public link.

A clip can use team-only access or a public link. These access modes use the same clip.

## Set the default for your organization

An organization owner or admin can choose whether new clips start with public links enabled.

1. In the Tellclip web app, open **Organization** under **Admin** in the sidebar.
2. Find **New clips are public by default**.
3. Turn it on for public links, or off for team-only access.

When this setting is **on**, anyone with the link can watch a new clip without signing in.
When it is **off**, new clips are available only to signed-in members of the organization.

Changing the default does not change existing clips. A clip owner or organization admin can still change access for an individual clip.

This sets the starting access for new clips. It does not prevent someone with sharing permissions from enabling a public link later.

## Team-only access

When `Public link` is off, only signed-in members of the organization can open the clip.

## Public-link access

When `Public link` is on, anyone with the link can watch the clip. A public link does not require a Tellclip account.

> Send a public link only to the intended people. Anyone who receives the link can open it.

The private setting limits access to members of the organization.

## Change access

**1. Open the clip**

Open the clip page while you are signed in.

**2. Open sharing settings**

Select `Share`.

**3. Set the access**

Turn `Public link` on or off.

The panel shows `Anyone with the link can view` or `Only your team can view`.

The clip owner or an organization admin can change sharing settings. Other members can view the current setting.

Turning off the public link also disables the public player and embed. Organization members can still open the team page.

## Common errors

### The Public link switch is disabled

Ask the clip owner or an organization admin to change the setting.

### An embed stops playing

Make sure that `Public link` is on. Embedding needs public-link access.

### A signed-in teammate cannot open the clip

Make sure that the teammate belongs to the same organization as the clip.
