# Style a screenshot

> Add a screenshot background, canvas, spacing, corners, and shadow.

Screenshot styles frame an image for sharing. These styles do not change clip backgrounds or shared-page branding.

## Add a background

**1. Open the background panel**

Open the screenshot editor. Then select `Background` in the toolbar.

**2. Turn on the style**

Select `Style` under `Background`.

**3. Choose a source**

Select `Themes`, `Colors`, `Gradients`, or `Custom`.

**4. Choose the background**

Select a background tile. You can also create a color or gradient, or select `Choose image…`.

Tellclip saves one PNG with the background, canvas, layout, and annotations.

The `Themes` group includes Dune, Monet, Plein Air, Contour, Still, Haze, and Linen.

The `Custom` group includes capture-derived blur effects and your image. A capture-derived blur uses pixels from the screenshot.

## Change the canvas

**1. Set the canvas ratio**

Select a ratio under `Canvas`. Select the original ratio to match the screenshot.

**2. Set the position**

If you selected a fixed ratio, choose a position in the alignment grid.

## Adjust the frame

Under `Layout`, change only the controls that you need:

* `Padding` changes the space around the screenshot.
* `Corners` changes the corner radius.
* `Inset` moves the screenshot inside the canvas.
* `Shadow` separates the screenshot from the background.

Press `⌘S` to save the image.

## Save a preset or default

Open `Style presets` in the toolbar. Select `Save Current Style as Preset…` to reuse the current style.

Select `Set as Default for New Screenshots` to apply the style during later captures.

The default affects the saved image and clipboard image. The screenshot card also shows the style.

If you need the original capture, use `Copy without style` on the screenshot card.

## Common errors

### The position control is not available

Select a fixed canvas ratio. The original ratio does not add extra space for positioning.

### A new screenshot has no default style

Open `Style presets`. Make sure that you selected `Set as Default for New Screenshots`.

### You need an unstyled copy

Hover over the screenshot card. Then select `Copy without style`.
